Bummer that the tickers didn't work. They were really cute. I'm obviously a Luddite.

[I've been exploring the reasons why my family and I share better overall physical health than many other people today.  My last post was about exercise.  This will be mostly about food, and we all know I'm all about food.]

[My younger daughter is a gifted writer, but she was speech-delayed as a little girl and even now tends to put her own inimitable spin on idiomatic expressions.  We've all used the phrase "for some reason": I feel tired all of a sudden for some reason; the light wasn't working for some reason.  Generally of course it means "for no discernible reason at all".  Marissa mixed up "for some reason" with "on purpose" and came up with her catchphrase "for a reason".  "He did that for a reason."  She doesn't say it so much these days, but it has become a bit of a family joke.  Hence the subject line.]

I'm trying to figure out why the girls and I are so healthy.  Now, usually I just accept my blessings and go from there.  For example, I was born with a creative bent, which makes life interesting for me.  Not much talent, and no business sense, so the creativity isn't "useful" in any way, but it makes me happy, so I count it a blessing, thank God for it daily, and enjoy it.

But I know so many people with physical health problems, and so many sickly kids, that I'd really like to know why we're in the minority.  I'm not trying to brag about it; I'm just trying to figure out the whys and pass them on, just in case anyone is interested.

1. Do you like blue cheese?  I like it very much.

2. Have you ever smoked?  I have never even tried, and don’t intend to.

3. Do you own a gun?  No.  I prefer the longbow, but I don’t have one of those, either.

4. What flavor Kool Aid was your favorite?  Lemonade is the only one I can stand.

5. Do you get nervous before doctor appointments?  I don’t go to doctors.

6. What do you think of hot dogs?  Fine at a ballgame, with a beer.  Corn dogs, now, those I can get outside of.  With a beer.

7. Favorite Christmas movie?  “It’s a Wonderful Life,” of course.

8. What do you prefer to drink in the morning?  Coffee in any form, even decaf.  My preference is cream and lots of sugar, but I’ll drink it black on fast days.

9. Can you do push ups?  Haven’t had to do any since high school PE, and I’m not planning to do any soon.

10.  What's your favorite piece of jewelry?  Rings in general, and my amethyst-and-two-blue-zircons ring in particular.

12. Do you have A.D.D.?  I don’t believe in ADD.

13. What's one trait you hate about yourself?  My quick temper.

14. Middle name?  Elizabeth.

15. Name 3 thoughts at this exact moment.  Worrying about my Beloved spending all day downtown and not getting out to the store with me later, wondering if Aurora is going to stay in bed all day, thinking I should probably comb my hair at some point.

16. Name 3 drinks you regularly drink?  Coffee in the morning, beer for dinner, water all the rest of the day.

17. Current worry?  My True Love’s family and how much trouble they’re likely to make this week.

19. Favorite place to be?  Home.

20. How did you bring in the New Year?  This year?  Can’t remember.  Probably I was checking my email.

27. Favorite color?  Maroon.

28. Would you be a pirate?  Yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum!  I mean, belay that.  I’m an honest seafaring lass, and I’ve got the Letters of Marque to prove it.

36. Do you love where you live?  The apartment is just about organized, which is nice, but the kitchen is annoyingly proportioned and the entire place is in Lexington, which is definitely not my choice part of the world.

37. How many TVs do you have in your house?  One.  Why would we need more?

38. Who is your loudest friend?  Ginny.  But if you mean my loudest relative, there’s some stiff competition for that one.

40. Does someone have a crush on you?  I wouldn’t think so.

42. What is your favorite candy?  Dark chocolate in general, especially if it’s somewhere near hazelnut truffle.

43. Favorite Sports Team?  Rather depends on the sport.  For college athletics, I root for my alma mater the Louisville Cardinals or whoever is playing against the University of Kentucky.  My NFL team is the Denver Broncos.  In baseball, I like the Chicago Cubs and the Boston Red Sox.  My soccer teams are the German National team and whichever team my younger daughter is playing on.  Otherwise, I decide on a game-by-game basis.

Where's #44?  Whoops.  I knew my coffee tasted funny….

2) Italicise those you have also read.
3) Underline the movies/miniseries you LOVE.
4) Reprint this list in your own LJ

There, now, doesn't that make you feel better?

Nothing sweet in the sorrow of parting,
Nothing brief in the eons alone.
Nothing swift in the seasons of waiting,
Nothing certain in futures unknown.

Nothing ardent in arms that are empty,
Nothing soft in an unfinished kiss.
Nothing left, in a weekend without thee,
But to scribble a poem like this.

Current Location: butt in chair, hands on keyboard
